Who gets to build the internet we actually want? Internet Archive and Internet Archive Canada were built on the idea that the tools and institutions shaping how we access information should be open to the people who use them.

On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, we’re bringing that idea to life at our Vancouver headquarters for an evening called Open by Design: Tools for Participation. Join us for a conversation about the choices we make when building the systems, tools, and institutions that shape how people access and share information.
The evening includes:
- Opening comments by IAC Executive Director, Andrea Mills
- Meet the AI Builders Fellows and hear about their work
- Remarks from Internet Archive founder Brewster Kahle
- Drinks, refreshments, and conversation
We’re excited to introduce the inaugural recipients of the AI Builders Fellowship, a collaboration between Internet Archive Canada and the BC + AI community. The fellows will share the projects they’re developing and the questions they’re exploring at the intersection of artificial intelligence, public information, and the open internet.
We’re also delighted to have Internet Archive founder Brewster Kahle join us, sharing his take on where the fight for open knowledge goes next as AI reshapes how information moves and who controls it.
When: Tuesday, October 27, 2026, 5:30–8:30 PM
Where: Internet Archive Canada Headquarters, 330 W Pender St, Vancouver, BC V6B 1T1
RSVP: Register on Luma
Come for the ideas, stay for the conversation!
