GovInfo Day Spring 2026 is coming to Vancouver on Thursday, May 7th and Friday, May 8th. Join us on May 8th at Internet Archive Canada headquarters for a full day of engaging sessions, discussion, and networking with colleagues across government, academic, and public libraries. This in-person event begins at 9:30 am. Mark your calendar and get ready to connect, learn, and share.
The day opens with a welcome and overview of the history of GovInfo Day, highlighting its origins in Information Rights Week and its growth into a vital space for collaboration and advocacy around access to government information. From there, sessions explore pressing issues in preservation and access, including Canada’s communications history and the challenges of maintaining government records over time.
Additional presentations examine the impact of emerging technologies and global information practices, from the role of AI in elections to evolving documentation at the United Nations and its implications for long-term access. The program also features discussions on AI and open government, efforts to archive the 2025 Canadian federal election web, and ongoing initiatives such as Democracy’s Library and web archiving in Canada.
We’re delighted to welcome Hillary Hartley, former Chief Digital and Data Officer and Deputy Minister for Digital Government for Ontario. She’ll share her perspective on how AI tools can unlock the full potential of open data.
With a mix of expert speakers and practical insights, GovInfo Day Spring 2026 offers a unique opportunity to engage with current issues shaping government information and to connect with a community committed to preserving and improving access for the future.
